521 N MCCADDEN PL, Los Angeles, CA 90004

$2,300,000

This remarkable compound is a calm architectural oasis housing an important California art collection. Sensitively adapting the best of 1920′s California Hacienda Style, the recent contemporary renovation and expansion amplifies the classicism of the spaces. The front gardens are landscaped for anonymity, the perimeter walls are high and secure, and there is a feeling of timelessness mixed with the best of 20th Century architecture.

Everywhere there are walls for art, including a soaring center atrium and dazzling passageways. Downstairs is a great front living room, dining and stylish kitchen, as well as an office and 2 wonderful bedroom suites. Upstairs the addition reveals gorgeous sightlines, and an oversized master suite with large walk-in closet and spectacular bathroom. The compound behind is anchored by a handsome swimming pool and spa, with a well-fitted guest house adjacent.

EAMESDESIGNS:THEGUESTHOSTRELATIONSHIP

Charles and Ray Eames inspired us to appreciate the world by honoring “the uncommon beauty of common things.”

This exhibit uses Eames words to focus on the lesser-known aspects of their lives, revealing their appreciation of the value of humble objects and useful tools. Their insights about the simple pleasures of daily life will be illustrated with objects and materials available during their lifetimes and contemporary examples from the world around us.

From tumbleweed to strawberries, a bolt of cloth to a keg of nails, to elephants in India and the bread of Scandinavia, the whole world was their canvas.

The technologies they used (and often invented) to record their appreciation, were the most advanced of their time.

The informal “assemblage” will show an aspect of Charles and Ray’s lives, which enchanted everyone lucky enough to know them and which, during Pacific Standard Time, will be available to all.
